"Using the energy transition to make nature in the North Sea diverse and rich again. That's my goal. I see a sea where, in addition to dynamic sandy soils, there is room for reefs, and where fish can grow. Fishing is not allowed within wind farms, and hard substrate (types of rock) is placed on the bottom. This creates reefs that are left alone and thus a place to see the potential of rich benthic communities in the North Sea. These communities form the basis of the food chain and biodiversity. Unfortunately, these places are not yet available outside wind farms. My hope is that within The Rich North Sea we will show how much potential North Sea nature has and thus realize that we can manage this area much better by allowing nature to flourish in addition to human use."
